HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team took home second place at Match Race Nationals in Charleston, S.C., as four sailors were named New England Inter-Collegiate Association sailors of the week.
Charles Lalumiere, Nate Greason, Abigail Rohman and Hope Wilson earned NEISA honors after leading their team to the championship race against host school College of Charleston.
On Friday, 10 schools competed in a round robin tournament against a strong breeze. The Big Green won four head-to-head races against Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara, College of Charleston and Ivy League foe, Harvard. By day's end, Dartmouth was in 6th place and needed a strong Saturday to compete for the title.
Saturday's breeze was much calmer, however sailors had to contend with a strong Charleston current. The Big Green swept Texas A&M 2-0 in the quarterfinals, earning them a spot in the semifinals against Eckerd College. Dartmouth defeated the Triton's in their first race on Saturday, earning the upper hand heading into Sunday's final day of races.
After beating Eckerd again on Sunday, the Big Green found themselves in the championship race which was a best of five series. The Cougars took the first two matches, but Dartmouth came charging back to take the next two. College of Charleston took the final race and the title in a close finish. After the Big Green, Georgetown finished third, followed by Eckerd and St Mary's.
