ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 12th-ranked Michigan Wolverines scored four times on the power play in a 7-0 win Friday night against the visiting Dartmouth men's hockey team.
Making their first trip to Yost Ice Arena in 36 years, the Big Green (2-5-0) were unable to match the Wolverines' (7-2-1) offensive prowess in the first of a two-game trip to Ann Arbor in the loss.
Michigan was 4-for-6 with the man-advantage, including two in the first period as part of a three-goal outburst in a 4:02 span to set the tone for the night to follow.
“They killed us on the power play tonight,” head coach Bob Gaudet said after the game. “It wasn't like we were running around taking undisciplined penalties all night. They just made sure they finished on the chances they had and we couldn't.
“It's a good experience for us to come out here and play a team like this,” Gaudet added. “We've got to take this and learn from it, come right back tomorrow night and play this team again and not let this one sit for too long.”
Zach Werenski and Tyler Motte each had a pair of goals in the win for the home team with Evan Allen, Cooper Marody and Boo Nieves adding the other Wolverine tallies. JT Compher led all players in scoring with three assists.
The two teams both had 33 shots on goal in the contest with Michigan's Steve Racine earning the 33-save shutout. Senior James Kruger made 26 saves n the losing effort.
These two will finish the weekend series Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. at Yost.
