HANOVER, N.H. – On the first day of the Big Green Invite, the Dartmouth women's tennis team faced Minnesota, going 8-2 overall.
In singles, junior Taylor Ng and Julia Courter were locked in a fierce battle for the entire match. Ng narrowly took the first set, 7-6(7) and fought hard to win the second, 6-4. Sophomore Julia Schroeder went to three sets against Annemarie Emme, dropping the first, 3-6, before easily winning the remaining two, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Julienne Keong had a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Bergman.
All three of the doubles matches were close. Mathis and junior Jacqueline Crawford had an 8-4 win over Jessika Mozia and Courter, while Keong and fellow senior Katherine Yau defeated Camila Vargas Gomez and Paula Rincon-Ortero, 8-5. Ng and freshman Allison Chuang fell to Emme and Caitlyn Merzbacher in a tiebreaker, 8-7(3).
The Big Green return to the Boss Tennis Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday with doubles against UMass. That will be followed by singles and doubles against Denver.
