NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Dartmouth women's hockey tied Yale, 3-3, at Ingalls Rink on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green were leading, 3-1, with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third when the Bulldogs scored twice in a five minute span to send the game to overtime, where neither team could get past the respective netminder.
Dartmouth is now 2-1-2 both overall and against ECAC Hockey opponents, while Yale is 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference action.
“We had a slow start to the game, but I thought we played really well in the second and for most of the third,” head coach Mark Hudak said. “I think we let up a little after our third goal and Yale pushed hard to even it up.
Sophomore Hailey Noronha and freshmen Tess Bracken and Kate Landers all ended the afternoon with two points each. Noronha and Bracken were credited with two assists, and Landers had one of each. Three other players ended the day with a point.
Senior Lindsey Allen got the Green on the board at 3:39 with her fourth of the season. Deep in Yale territory, junior Kennedy Ottenbreit cleared the puck and sent it to Noronha, who fired at the net. Allen picked up the puck and chipped it over Hanna Mandl's right shoulder. Before the period was out, the Bulldogs would tie the score at one with a Mallory Souliotis marker at 17:38.
The Green got ahead once again with a power-play tally by Landers at 13:05 in the second. Bracken sent the puck from the blueline, firing it past three Bulldogs to the right of the net, where Landers was waiting to flick it into the net. Dartmouth increased its lead to two at 9:09 in the third period when sophomore Brooke Ahbe picked up a deflected shot and sent it past the netminder's outstretched glove and into the net for the Green's second man-up goal of the day.
Yale began to mount a comeback, getting one goal closer at 12:49 with a goal by Brittany Wheeler. With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Eden Murray scored the game-tying tally to force overtime. In those final 10 minutes of play, the Big Green took two shots to the Bulldogs' one, but both goalies made the saves to prevent any other goals.
Dartmouth outshot Yale, 30-28, and went 2-for-4 on the power-play, while the Bulldogs were 0-for-5 with the extra man. In net, junior Robyn Chemago made 25 saves, while Mandl stopped 27 shots.
Next week is a busy one for Dartmouth, who will host Maine (Tues, Nov. 10), Rensselaer (Friday, Nov. 13) and Union (Saturday, Nov. 14).
