PRINCETON, N.J. – After two weeks off from competition, the Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool for day one of the Big Al Invitational on Friday. The Big Green are currently sitting in sixth place with 114 points.
The three-day, seven-session meet, which is taking place at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, features non-conference opponents from Pittsburgh, Rider and Villanova, and Ivy rivals Brown, Princeton and Penn, which will help prepare the Big Green for conference action.
To start the first night of finals, Dartmouth's A relay placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.04). Made up of senior Kendese Nangle, freshman Megan Crook, junior Maddie Dunn and senior Charlotte Kamai, the Green out-touched Brown by two-tenths of a second. Dartmouth's B relay took 10th in 1:36.87.
The Big Green's lone representative in the A final of the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore AnnClaire MacArt swam right around her time from prelims to take sixth (4:53.34). Senior Olivia Samson was 13th (4:56.44) and freshman Molly Brickman took 20th (4:58.09). Swimming in the C final of the 200-yard IM, freshman Amber Zimmerman took 18th (2:05.58).
All four of Dartmouth's swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle went under 24 seconds. Senior Kendese Nangle was fourth (23.17), improving from prelims by five one-hundredths. Junior Maddie Dunn came in 12th place (23.51), Crook was 16th (23.98) and Kamai touched in 19th (23.74).
To end the first night, the Green took eighth and ninth in the 400-yard medley relay, with the A relay touching first (3:49.90) and the B following soon after (3:50.84).
Dartmouth will return to DeNunzio at 11 a.m. on Saturday, starting with prelims of the 400-yard IM. Follow along with live stats here.
