HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 62 Dartmouth women's tennis team concluded its third weekend of home matches with a 7-0 victory over Miami of Ohio on Sunday morning. The Big Green, who were wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, improved to 5-0, while the Red Hawks fell to 1-3 on the season.
Dartmouth picked up the doubles point following wins at No. 1 and 3. Sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis defeated Nelli Ponomareva and Christine Guerrazzi, 6-4, in the top spot, and senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder had a 6-3 victory over Andreea Badileanu and Ramona Costea at No. 3.
In singles, Schroeder and junior Sarah Bessen each went to three sets, coming from behind to win their matches. At No. 5, Schroeder dropped the first set to Hannah Shteyn, 4-6, before taking the final two, 6-3, 1-0. At No. 6, Bessen also fell in the first set to Ana Rajkovic by a score of 4-6, but turned things around to win the remaining two, 6-3, 1-0.
At No. 1, Ng defeated Guerrazzi, 6-1, 6-3, while Okuda won against Thurman at No. 4 by the same score. Junior Katherine Yau easily won her first set against Badileanu, 6-0, but had to battle to win the second set, 7-6 at No. 2, and, at No. 3, Mathis had a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Ponomareva.
The Green and White will travel to New York for the ECAC Tournament, which will take place from Feb. 6-8.
