HANOVER, N.H. – After the opponent won the doubles point and headed into singles with a 1-0 lead, the No. 22 Dartmouth women's tennis team came back to the defeat Massachusetts, 4-3, at the Boss Tennis Center on Thursday.
The undefeated Big Green are now 11-0 on the season, while UMass dipped to 3-3.
Freshman Alexxis Kiven and junior Katherine Yau picked up Dartmouth's lone doubles victory with a 6-4 win over Arielle Griffen and Aarzoo Malik at No. 2. Sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis at No. 1 and juniors Julienne Keong Si Ying and Suzy Tan at No. 3 both fell to their opponents by scores of 6-4 as well.
Trailing slightly, Dartmouth mounted a comeback, ultimately winning four of the singles points to take the match. Ng had a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Malik at No. 1, while Mathis defeated Griffen by a score of 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Senior Akiko Okuda had a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carol Benito at No. 5, while freshman Julia Schroeder added one more point with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Chanel Glasper at No. 6.
The Green will be on the road for the next seven matches and will not return to the Boss Tennis Center until mid-April. Dartmouth's next match will not be until Thursday, March 19, when it travels to California to face Long Beach State.
