HANOVER, N.H. – After tying the score twice, the Dartmouth women's hockey team was defeated by Yale by a score of 6-2 at Thompson Arena on Saturday.
The Big Green dipped to 11-11-2 and 7-9-2 in ECAC Hockey play, while the Bulldogs improved to 11-13-1 and 8-10-0 in conference action.
Juniors Lindsey Allen and Laura Stacey led the way with two points apiece; Allen scored Dartmouth's first goal and tacked on an assist on the next marker, while Stacey assisted on both goals.
At 7:32 in the opening period, Phoebe Staenz skated from the left side while evading a number of Dartmouth players and looked as if she were going to go behind the net, but instead took a shot, sneaking the puck through the minute space between sophomore Robyn Chemago's kneepad and the right pipe. At 16:52, after receiving passes from Stacey and sophomore Eleni Tebano, Allen tied things up when she buried the puck in the right side of the goal, beating Jaimie Leonoff's quick hands by a split second.
Yale got the upper hand, once again, when a shot by Jackie Raines went right through Chemago's legs at 6:05 in the second period. During the remainder of the middle stanza, a shot by Hanna Astrom hit the pipe and Chemago had to make 10 saves, but the score stayed in the Bulldogs' favor.
Sophomore Kennedy Ottenbreit's 10th goal of the season tied the score at two at 7:34 in the third period, with assists going to Stacey and Allen. After Dartmouth tied things up, Yale scored three goals within two minutes to give the visitor a 5-2 lead. Jamie Haddad netted the game-winner at 12:36, while Stephanie Mock and Raines scored two safety goals at 13:47 and 14:53, respectively. Staenz added an empty netter at 19:36 to end the game.
Dartmouth outshot Yale, 30-29. Chemago ended the day with 23 saves, while Leonoff had 28.
Dartmouth will hit the road for the last time during the regular season next weekend, facing Colgate at 7 p.m. on Friday and Cornell at 4 p.m. the next day.
