LA JOLLA, Calif. – The day after falling to Long Beach State, No. 23 Dartmouth women's tennis took down No. 66 Denver, 4-3, at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Friday. The Big Green improved to 12-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fell to 6-6.
With victories at the No. 2 and 3 doubles, Dartmouth went into singles with a 1-0 lead. Senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder had an 8-2 win over Sonja Radosevic and Evy Van Genechten at No. 3 shortly before junior Katherine Yau and freshman Alexxis Kiven had a close 8-6 defeat of Michelle Garpenlov and Morgan Barnhill at No. 2.
A 6-4, 6-0 victory by Okuda over Charlotte Derbyshire at the No. 5 singles and two Denver wins at No. 2 and 6 tied things up at two, while a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Van Genechten by junior Jacqueline Crawford at No. 4 and another Pioneers' point at No. 3 kept the score locked, this time at three.
Sophomore Taylor Ng won the deciding match at the No. 1 singles over Maureen Slattery, 6-3, 7-6(4), to wrap up the day nicely.
The Big Green will continue their road trip through California, traveling to Irvine to take on UC Irvine at 11 a.m. (PT) on Monday.
