No. 23 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 59 UC Irvine, 5-2

IRVINE, Calif. – Continuing its road trip through the Golden State, the No. 23 Dartmouth women's tennis team took down No. 59 UC Irvine, 5-2, on Monday at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The Green improved to 13-1, while UCI dipped to 9-7.

After the Anteaters won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and Dartmouth was victorious at the No. 2 position, 8-6, it all came down to senior Akiko Okuda and freshman Julia Schroeder against Andrea Duva and Mazy Watrous at No. 3. The Big Green duo saved a match point with an outstanding volley by Okuda and went on to win the tiebreaker, 8-6, to give Dartmouth the doubles point.

With a 1-0 lead, the Big Green scored the first three singles points to clinch the match early. At No. 1, sophomore Taylor Ng handedly defeated Sarah Gong, 6-0, 6-3, while Schroeder had similar results at No. 6, winning against Cassidy Branstine, 6-0, 6-2. Fellow freshman Kristina Mathis had a 6-1, 7-5 defeat of Arisha Ladhani, while junior Jacqueline Crawford had to fight to secure a 7-5, 7-6(4) victory over Ali Facey.

Dartmouth also won five of the six extra matches that were played.

The Green will wrap up their trip in California with a 2 p.m. (ET) match against Cal. State University – Northridge on Wednesday, March 25.
