PRINCETON, N.J. – After an exciting 12-11 double overtime victory over No. 15/16 Harvard on Saturday, two members of the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team were honored by the Ivy League, as was announced Monday.
Freshman Jack Korzelius was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week, while senior Phil Hession was named Co-Player of the Week with Princeton's Mike MacDonald.
The last Green player to be honored by the league was sophomore Jack McCormick, who was named Rookie of the Week on April 7, 2014.
After a Crimson goal tied the score at 11 with just 14 seconds left in regulation, the two teams battled through one overtime period scoreless before Korzelius netted the game-winner with 2:21 remaining in the second to end the game in a rather dramatic fashion. The rookie from Purchase, New York, who leads the team in both goals (10) and points (10), also found the back of the net in the third.
In addition to his two unassisted markers, Hession led the team with 15 ground balls and went 20-for-24 on the face-off, setting new Dartmouth single-game records in both categories. The Canton, Massachusetts, native leads the Big Green with 39 ground balls and is 45-of-74 in face-offs.
The Big Green is currently 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. They will return to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. non-conference tilt against Vermont on Scully-Fahey Field.
