HANOVER, N.H. — The No. 37 Dartmouth women's tennis battled back from a 1-3 deficit against No. 56 Princeton this afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center but ultimately fell 4-3 to the Tigers.
Dartmouth's record is now 14-5 and 1-2 in Ivy League play, while Princeton moves to 10-7 and has a perfect 4-0 record against conference rivals.
Dartmouth dropped the doubles point and then fell behind 2-0 after senior co-captain Akiko Okuda was edged 7-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Jacqueline Crawford then put the Big Green on the board with a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles. Princeton moved ahead, 3-1, with a win at No. 2 singles, as junior co-captain Katherine Yau lost a close one, 6-4, 7-6. Dartmouth fought back, as sophomore Taylor Ng beat the 2014 Ivy League Player of the Year, Lindsay Graff, for the second time this year.
Freshman Kristina Mathis then evened the score at 3-3 with a come-from-behind 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. This put freshman Julia Schroeder in the same position as last weekend when she won the deciding match against Cornell. But after coming back to win the second set against the Tigers' Katie Goepel, the seasoned Princeton senior prevailed in the third set.
The Big Green return to action at home on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Penn, who are coming off a win against Harvard.
