THIS WEEK
The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will play the penultimate road game of the 2015 season when it travels to the Garden State on Tuesday to face the New Jersey Institute of Technology for the first time ever.
LAST TIME OUT
Adam Fishman scored four times, but a strong Princeton squad registered 11 second-half goals to defeat the Big Green, 16-5, at Scully-Fahey on Saturday. Mike MacDonald led the Tigers with six points on five goals and an assist. Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead early in opening quarter on Fishman's first of the day from Jack Korzelius with 13:28 to go, but Princeton scored the next three tallies in an eight-minute span before the teams exchanged the next two goals. Each team scored just once in the second, as Fishman completed his hat trick midway through the frame. In the third quarter, however, it was all Princeton, as the Tigers netted seven goals in 15 minutes. Dartmouth's only tally came in a man-up situation as Cam Lee scored an unassisted marker to make it an 8-4 contest. With Dartmouth trailing 12-4, Fishman received a pass from Adam Hull 1:40 into the final quarter, but Princeton would score four more goals before the game ended, including two in the last two minutes.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT has had a tough time in its first season as a varsity sport, dropping all 11 of its games. Some of the results have been painful (like a 21-2 loss to Rutgers on March 20 and a 21-3 loss to Richmond three days later) while others have been nail biters (in the game against UMass Lowell on March 7, the Highlanders narrowly fell, 9-7). The game against the Big Green will be NJIT's final game of the season. Joe Lomeli leads the team with 18 goals and two assists for 20 points. Zachary Melillo has grabbed 50 ground balls and is 94-for-217 on the face-off.
LEADING THE WAY
Wiley Osborne remains first on the team with nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points. After his performance on Saturday, Fishman is now tied for second with Jack Korzelius with 14 points. He has netted 14 goals, while Korzelius has 13 markers and one assist. Phil Hession has grabbed 61 ground balls and is 84-for-140 in face-offs.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Blair Friedensohn has started all eight games, making 84 saves while allowing 105 goals, has a 12.95 goals against average and a .444 save percentage. He is currently 2-6 on the season. Against Princeton on Saturday, he made eight saves while allowing 15 goals in the losing effort. Colin Heffernan has appeared in three contests in 2015, making three saves and allowing nine markers, getting his first win of the year against Wagner on March 7. He has a 9.42 goals against average and a .250 save percentage. Vandenberg made his collegiate debut between the pipes against Harvard, spending 2:01 in the cage. On Saturday, he allowed one goal in his 1:47 in net.
CALLAHAN & CO.
The 2015 season is all about rebuilding. That rebuild began last summer with the hiring of Callahan, who came to Hanover after spending the last seven years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Lehigh. Callahan brought in Tucker Kear and Kevin Gould to round out the Big Green's new look on the sidelines.
FRESH FACES
Making their collegiate debut this year in the Class of 2018 are Willis Bocock, Jase Davis, Cormac Dugan, Cody George, Alex Kelly, Evan Key, Jack Korzelius, Patrick Lesch, Richie Loftus, James McJunkin, Sam Runkle, Doug Strazza and Ty Vandenberg. Korzelius leads the way with 13 markers and one assist, while Key has netted a three goals and two assists for five points.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Dartmouth's final road game of the season will take place on Saturday, April 18, when it faces Penn at 12 p.m. After that, the Big Green will host two home contests before officially wrapping up the season.
