No. 35 Women's Tennis Defeats Brown, 4-3, on Senior Day

HANOVER, N.H. – Honoring Akiko Okuda on Senior Day, the No. 35 Dartmouth women's tennis team had a 4-3 win over No. 65 Brown on Friday.

The Big Green, who were playing their final home match of the season, improved to 16-5 and 3-2 in Ivy League action, while the Bears dipped to 9-9 and 2-3 in conference play.

Okuda and junior Katherine Yau got things started with an 8-5 victory over Hannah Camhi and Maddie Stearns at No. 2 doubles, giving the home team a leg up on the way to winning the first point of the day. It was up in the air about which court would finish next: freshmen Julia Schroeder and Alexxis Kiven were tied at five with Ammu Mandalap and Nikita Uberoi at No. 3, while sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis were trailing Dayna Lord and Alyza Benotto, 7-5, at No. 1.

The No. 1 doubles team overcame the deficit to tie the score at seven and force a tiebreaker, ultimately winning by a score of 8-7(6) to take the rightfully earned one-point lead heading into singles.

A 6-3, 6-3 victory by Ng over Lord at No. 1 and a 6-2, 6-1 win by sophomore Jacqueline Crawford against Uberoi at No. 4 gave Dartmouth a 3-0 lead. The Bears got back in the match by winning at No. 3 and 5, but Schroeder would go on to clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Mandalap at No. 6.

Dartmouth will face Yale at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
