No. 35 Big Green Women's Tennis Edges Yale, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 35 Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated Yale, 4-3, at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on Sunday. The Big Green improved to 17-5 and 4-2 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs fell to 9-10 and 3-3 in conference action.

An 8-4 victory by junior Katherine Yau and senior Akiko Okuda over Hanna Yu and Valerie Shklover at No. 2 and an 8-5 defeat by sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis against Madeleine Hamilton and Ree Ree Li at No. 1 put Dartmouth up, 1-0, after doubles.

The Green's first singles win came at No. 4, when sophomore Jacqueline Crawford defeated Sherry Li, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1, Ng had a 6-3, 6-2 win over Yu, who ended the Green sophomore's run in the semifinal of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship last October. This victory gave the visitors a 3-0 edge.

After Yale got two points with wins at No. 2 and No. 5, Okuda clinched the win with a dramatic three-set victory at No. 6. She fell in the first set, 6-2, before winning the other two, 7-5, 6-1, saving four match points in the second set to take the win.

Dartmouth's final match of the 2015 season will take place next Saturday, April 25, when it faces Harvard at 2 p.m.
