THIS WEEK
Dartmouth men's lacrosse will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, hosting UMass Lowell at 7 p.m. This will be the first time that the two teams have ever played each other.
LAST TIME OUT
After trailing, 7-2, halfway through the second quarter, the Big Green mounted a comeback and tied the score twice in the third, but ultimately fell to Penn, 15-12, in their final road game of the 2015 season on Saturday. Adam Fishman had a big day, netting five goals. He is now first on the team with 20 markers. Phil Hession also had a strong performance, going 17-for-24 on the face-off and led the team with 10 ground balls. Playing all 60 minutes between the pipes, Blair Friedensohn made 12 stops, including a handful of key saves early on, while being tagged with the loss. The first quarter was relatively evenly matched and Penn entered the second with a slight 4-2 edge. Three straight Quaker goals gave the home team a 7-2 lead early in the second quarter, but the Big Green clawed their way back with two by Fishman and one by Jack Connolly, closing the gap to 7-5 heading into the third. The third quarter was an eventful one for both teams and, nine goals later, the score was tied at 11 going into the final 15 minutes. Penn broke that tie a minute into the fourth and ran with the lead, scoring twice more before Dartmouth could get one of its own.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
UMass Lowell has struggled in its first season as a Division I sport, winning just one game (a 9-7 victory over NJIT on March 7) out of the 12 it has played. Last Saturday, the River Hawks suffered a 13-7 loss to conference foe Maryland Baltimore County, scoring the first goal of the game before having that lead erased with three consecutive UMBC goals to end the first. Jon Phillips leads the team with 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points.
LEADING THE WAY
Wiley Osborne remains first among the Big Green with 28 points on 10 goals and 18 assists. Fishman is first in markers (20) and is second in points (20). Hession is first with 74 ground balls and is 106-for-176 in face-offs, which is well above .500.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Blair Friedensohn has started all 11 games, making 107 saves while allowing 125 goals, has a 12.37 goals against average and a .461 save percentage. He is currently 3-7 on the season. In the loss to Penn, he made 12 stops, including a handful of key saves to keep Dartmouth in the game. Colin Heffernan has appeared in three contests in 2015, making three saves and allowing nine markers, getting his first win of the year against Wagner on March 7. He has a 9.42 goals against average and a .250 save percentage. Vandenberg has seen action in two games so far this season.
CALLAHAN & CO.
The 2015 season is all about rebuilding. That rebuild began last summer with the hiring of Callahan, who came to Hanover after spending the last seven years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Lehigh. Callahan brought in Tucker Kear and Kevin Gould to round out the Big Green's new look on the sidelines.
FRESH FACES
Making their collegiate debut this year in the Class of 2018 are Willis Bocock, Jase Davis, Cormac Dugan, Cody George, Alex Kelly, Evan Key, Jack Korzelius, Patrick Lesch, Richie Loftus, James McJunkin, Sam Runkle, Doug Strazza and Ty Vandenberg. Leading the group is Korzelius with his 17 goals and one assist, while Key has three goals and two assists to his name and George has one marker.
WHAT'S NEXT?
With just one more regular season game to go, Dartmouth will host Brown on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. The Green will also honor their eight seniors, who will be playing at Scully-Fahey Field for the last time.
