HANOVER, N.H. – In its final game of the 2015 season, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team fell to No. 10 Brown, 17-8, on Senior Day at Scully-Fahey Field on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green ended the year with a record of 5-8 and 1-5 in conference action, while the Bears improved to 12-3 and 4-2 in league play. With the victory, Brown secured a spot in the Ivy playoffs, which will be played next weekend, and earned a share of the conference title with Princeton.
The Bears' Dylan Molloy, who is ranked second in the nation in goals and third in points, led both teams with five markers and two assists for seven points. For the Green, seniors Phil Hession and Adam Fishman, and freshman Jack Korzelius all had two goals. Sophomore Wiley Osborne tallied two assists.
Although the ball spent the opening minutes of the first quarter directly in front of the Bears' goal, it was Brown that struck first, scoring twice within a two-minute span to take an early lead. At 7:28, Korzelius put Dartmouth on the board and, less than 20 seconds later, Hession tied the score at two with 7:09 remaining.
Henry Blynn put Brown one ahead with 3:51 to play, but Fishman tied things at four 10 seconds later. Molloy's second of the quarter with 2:37 left gave the visitors a 4-3 edge going into the second.
Just four goals were scored in the second quarter, all of which were netted by players in brown uniforms. The Bears entered the third with an 8-3 advantage.
After the home team was held scoreless for almost 20 minutes, Korzelius scored his second marker of the game and his 21st of the year to narrow Brown's lead to four with 13:50 to play in the third, but Tim Jacob's tally 45 seconds later put the Bears five ahead, once again, with a 9-4 edge.
From there, the teams went goal-for-goal: junior Cam Lee found the back of the net with 8:51 remaining, which was followed by an Alex Tulett tally 13 seconds later. Brown got two more off goals by Blynn and Molloy, but so did Dartmouth following markers by Hession and fellow senior Robert Osgood. One more by Molloy made it a 13-7 game heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Bears had a 4-1 advantage with two goals by Kylor Bellistri and one by Nick Piroli and Ted Ottens. With 45 ticks remaining in the game, Fishman scored the Green's lone marker of the quarter to close out the game.
Both teams took 42 shots. Dartmouth went 14-for-29 in face-offs and was held to 0-for-3 with the extra player, while Brown went 1-for-2 in man-up situations. Between the pipes, junior Blair Friedensohn had eight saves and allowed 16 goals. On the other side of the field, Jack Kelly stopped 15 shots.
