HANOVER, N.H. – For the second straight year in a row, Dana Giordano led the way as the Dartmouth women's cross country team won its season-opening race at the Hanover Country Club.
The Big Green posted a perfect 15-point score in taking home the team title for the second consecutive season at the Dartmouth Invitational. It wasn't just the first five runners who collected points that led the home team to a big day on the 6K course as the first 10 finishers wore green and white.
Giordano was the first to cross — doing so in 21:33.81 — but was not the only runner to post a strong showing in the first competition of the fall. Leigh Moffett pushed herself and her teammates throughout and was rewarded with a second-place finish in 21:40.86.
Helen Schlactenhaufen (21:43.26), Reid Watson (21:46.73) and Elizabeth Markowitz (21:46.94) went three-four-five in the scoring to help Dartmouth to the perfect point total when all was said and done.
Five more Big Green harriers would cross the finish line before an individual representing another program would, capping a dominant team performance to begin the cross country campaign.
Kennedy Jensen (21:47.98), Bridget O'Neill (22:06.62), Olivia Lantz (22:07.99), Bridget Flynn (22:09.64) and Sarah Bennett (22:17.77) rounded out the top-10 on this day.
In the team standings, Keene State claimed second with 55 points, followed by Middlebury (74), UMass Lowell (116) and Bentley (131).
The Big Green return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 in the Bay State as they run at Boston College's annual home meet.
