WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Dartmouth women's tennis team wrapped up its first weekend of the 2015-16 season on Sunday, taking on South Carolina and VCU in singles on day three of the Tribe Invitational. The Big Green won two of its matches throughout the day.
"We competed very well against quality opponents on Sunday," head coach Bob Dallis said. "A focus for our team is to try and compete our best on the last day of an event, and I think we succeeded."
At the conclusion of the tournament, senior Katherine Yau was named to the Tribe Invitational All-Tournament Team for her doubles' performances. On Friday, she and sophomore Julia Schroeder defeated USC's Hadley Berg and Ingrid Gamarra Martins, 7-6(2). On Saturday, Yau and sophomore Kristina Mathis had a 7-5 win over Derya Turban and Rachael Morales of Marshall and, later in the day, she and fellow senior Suzy Tan took down William & Mary's Mélanie Roy and Deepa Dhore, 6-4.
Yau picked up one of the Green's two wins over VCU, defeating Anna Rasmussen, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4). Fellow senior Julienne Keong added another victory for Dartmouth with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Yana Morar. Schroeder and Tan were incredibly close to their opponents, but ultimately both fell by scores of 7-6, 6-4.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, Dartmouth will head to California for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America Championship.
