SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore Ian Kelsey finished in a tie for second place at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic Tuesday afternoon with a three-round total of 210 (-3) at the par-71 Warren Golf Course.
Kelsey and the rest of the Big Green played the third and final round on Tuesday after playing 36 holes on Monday, saving his best for the second day with a four-under 67, That put him under par for the 54-hole tournament, three strokes behind medalist Jonathan De Los Reye of St. Mary's (Calif.).
The third-round 67 tied Kelsey with De Los Reye, Will Stewart of William & Mary and Ben Albin of host Notre Dame for the lowest mark of the tournament, with all but Stewart's coming on Tuesday.
As a team, the Green finished 12th with an 890, 38-over par, though they were just eight-over on the final day of competition.
John Lazor tied for 37th with a 220 (+9), shooting a one-over 72 in each of his final two rounds. Jeff Lang (229, +16) and Sean Fahey (232, +19) were tied for 56th and 61st, respectively, while Reed Russ' 243 (+30) left him in 69th place.
St. Mary's and the hosts from Notre Dame tied for the top team spot with at 850 (-2), while the remaining teams all posted scores over par.
Dartmouth returns to the Upper Valley for its next outing, serving as host for the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge at the Quechee Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27.
