HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped its 2015 Ivy League opener Sunday afternoon to No. 20 Princeton, 7-3, at Chase AstroTurf Field.

The Big Green got goals from sophomores Anna Ewasechko and Julia Donald and senior Brooke Van Valkenburg as their team dropped to 3-4 overall with the loss. The Tigers improved to 3-4 in earning the victory in the Ancient Eight opener for both teams.

Princeton scored in bunches in both halves, including taking a 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes with a pair of goals from Maddie Copeland and one from Sophia Tornetta just 18 seconds into the game.

Copeland capped her hat trick in the 41st minute, while teammates Elizabeth George and Cat Caro added two more Tiger tallies in the ensuing 55 seconds. Fittingly, it was Tornetta who also capped off the Princeton scoring with the team's seventh goal in the 56th minute on a penalty stroke.

Ewasechko scored her second goal of the season in the 18th minute, knocking in a rebound on a Rebecca Hu shot following a corner play that started with an Ewasechko pushout.

Donald's team-leading sixth goal of the fall pulled the home team to within one, 3-2, just three minutes into the second half, but was immediately answered by the Tigers' second three-goal outburst of the afternoon.

Van Valkenburg finished off Dartmouth's final corner play of the afternoon with her fourth goal of the season. Eliza Becker and Hu picked up the helpers on the play, giving the former a team-high five with the latter earning her fourth.

Junior goalkeeper Paige Duffy made five saves and allowed six in 44:12 of action before making way for freshman Hailey Valerio who made three saves in the final 25:48. The only goal Valerio allowed came on Tornetta's penalty stroke.

The Big Green are on the road next weekend for a pair of game in the Rhode Island capital, playing Brown on Saturday and a non-conference tilt at Providence on Sunday.
