THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth volleyball team will open the 2015 season in tournament one-of-three, facing TCU at San Diego State on Friday before traveling 20 minutes down the road to San Diego to play Pacific and the Toreros the following day. All three opponents opened their seasons a week earlier than the Big Green.
SCOUTING TCU
The Horned Frogs hosted the TCU Tournament this past weekend, which was their first of four consecutive invites. They faced Abilene Christian, Texas State and the UTEP, defeating all three teams by scores of 3-0.
SCOUTING PACIFIC
The Tigers opened 2015 with a 2-1 weekend, defeating South Dakota State, 3-0, and Northern Illinois, 3-1, but falling to Iowa, 3-2, at the Northern Illinois Invitational.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO
At the Colorado Tournament, the Toreros picked up a 3-1 win against Colorado and a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma before being dealt their first loss of the season in the form of a 3-0 shutout by San Diego to end the weekend.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
In the program's 22-year history, the Big Green have never faced any of these teams.
LINDSEY AND CO.
Having led the Big Green since the 2010-11 season, head coach Erin Lindsey has compiled a record of 42-58 and a 17-39 Ivy League mark as she enters her fifth year. Joining her on the bench are first-year assistants Jon Haruguchi, who spent five years as an assistant coach at Louisiana Lafayette before being named associate head coach for the 2014 season, and Aylene Ilkson, who served as head coach at Coast Guard for two years.
CAPTAINS
The 20-player squad, which is made up of 14 returnees and six freshmen, are led by captains Paige Caridi, Kayden Cook and Kaira Lujan, who are all entering their final year on the court. Last season, Caridi, a second-team All-Ivy and second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, was first on the team in solo blocks (11), tied for first in kills (268) and second in digs (279). Cook had 83 digs and eight blocks, and was second on the team with 427 assists and 18 service aces, while Lujan was third among the Big Green in both kills (138) and total blocks (50).
FRESH FACES
Joining the Big Green to start their collegiate careers are Samantha Bozoian, Jordan Cornwell, Zoe Leonard, Sierra Lyle, Catherine Shepherd and Lida Vandermeer.
NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
The Big Green will host the Dartmouth Tournament next weekend, facing West Virginia on Friday, Sept. 11, and UConn on Sunday, Sept. 13.
