Series: Big Green and Terriers tied 4-4-3
TUESDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth men's soccer team takes a break from Ivy League action with a Tuesday night showdown in the Bay State with Boston University.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
BU heads into Tuesday's match having lost three of its last four games. The Terriers recently tied Loyola Maryland, 3-3 in double overtime to snap the three-game skid. As a team, BU has scored 17 times this season with six of those goals coming off the foot of Felix De Bona. Anthony Viteri has also found the back of the net five times and is tied with De Bona for a team-high 12 points. In goal, Matt Gilbert has 58 saves with a .733 save percentage through 11 starts.
LAST TIME AGAINST BU
The Big Green and Terriers last met on Oct. 14, 2014, where Dartmouth had an eight-game unbeaten streak snapped at the hands of BU, 3-1. Despite the loss, the Big Green finished the contest with a, 14-4, edge in shots, forcing BU keeper Nick Thomson to make six saves. Dartmouth's only goal came from Ricardo Gomez, after receiving a corner kick served by Stefan Defregger to the goalmouth.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off their best offensive performance of the season with a 4-1 victory over Penn last Saturday at Burnham Field. Dartmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Tyler Dowse found Noah Paravicini on a long pass down the field. Paravicini worked around Penn's defense and fired a shot that rocketed past the Quaker's keeper for the early score. Just about 10 minutes into the second half, Jonathan Nierenberg netted his second goal of the season to put Dartmouth ahead, 2-0. In the 60th minute, Matt Greer and Emmanuel Arteaga got behind Penn's defense on an odd man rush. Greer passed the ball over to the Big Green captain, who capitalized on his shot for Arteaga's first goal of the season. After a Quakers' goal, Wyatt Omsberg scored on a penalty shot to thwart any comeback bid by Penn.
THE RACE FOR FIRST
Dartmouth is currently in a three-way tie with Columbia and Harvard for first place in the Ivy League. All three teams currently sit at 2-0-1 after last weekend's contests.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
The Big Green are ranked No. 18 in the nation in the NCAA Men's Soccer RPI rankings. Dartmouth is the highest Ancient Eight school on the list that is based on a team's wins, losses and its strength of schedule.
WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW
The Big Green have played to five double-overtime draws this season. The last time Dartmouth recorded four ties was in 2013 in Chad Riley's first season as head coach. The most draws in a season for the Big Green is seven in 2004.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
James Hickok has performed well for Dartmouth in goal so far in 2016. He is second in the Ivy League in save percentage (.804) and in goals against (9).
TAKING CHANCES
Greer and Justin Donawa have been creating scoring chances for the Big Green this season. Greer is ranked second in the Ancient Eight with 29 shots, while Donawa is not far behind in third with 27.
