DEDHAM, Mass. – The No. 42 Dartmouth women's tennis team defeated No. 49 Boston College, 4-3, on Saturday evening. The Big Green improved to 3-2, while the Eagles fell to 4-2.
At No. 2 doubles, senior Katherine Yau and sophomore Julia Schroeder had a 6-1 win over Emily Safron and Katya Vasilyev, but a 6-3 BC win at the No. 3 position meant it all came down to No. 1. Junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis – who are now seventh in the ITA National rankings – defeated Lexi Borr and Jackie Urbinati, 6-3, to give the doubles point to Dartmouth.
The Eagles tied things up with a win at No. 1, but junior Jacqueline Crawford's 6-2, 6-4 win over Urbinati at No. 4 singles made it 2-1 in favor of the Green. The teams traded points once again, with BC winning at the No. 2 position and Dartmouth taking No. 5 with a three-set victory by Schroeder. With Dartmouth leading, 3-2, BC tied the score with a three-set win of its own at No. 3 singles.
At the deciding No. 6 position, freshman Allison Chuang defeated Wan-Yi Sweeting, 6-4, 7-5, to clinch the match for Dartmouth.
The Big Green returns to the court on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Boston University.
