WELCOME BACK
Dartmouth men's lacrosse will open the 2016 season on Saturday, Feb. 20, when it travels to Connecticut to face Sacred Heart at 1 p.m.
2015 IN REVIEW
The Big Green ended last season with an overall record of 5-8 and were 1-5 in Ivy League play. Their conference win came in a thrilling 12-11 double overtime victory over No. 15/16 Harvard at Scully-Fahey Field, defeating the Crimson for the first time since 2011.
BEHIND THE BENCH
Brendan Callahan returns for his second season at Dartmouth after being named the program's 10th head coach in the program's 89-year history in August of 2014. Two new faces will join Callahan on the sidelines in 2016: Scott Hackett-Dalgliesh and Brian Small. Hackett-Dalgliesh came to Hanover from UMass Lowell, where he was an assistant coach for the team's first year as a Division I team, while Small served as head coach at John Carroll for the Blue Streaks' first two seasons as a varsity program.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart is already two games into its season. It opened 2016 at Lafayette and walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Leopards, but fell to Stony Brook by a score of 17-8 four days later. Leading the team during the very early parts of the campaign are Alex Dodge (2G, 3A) and Bryce Jurk (3G, 2A), who both have five points.
LAST TIME AGAINST SACRED HEART
In its first home game of the season on March 4, 2015, the Big Green dropped a 10-9 heartbreaker to the Pioneers. After Jack Connolly tied the score at nine with 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Sacred Heart got possession of the ball and, a split second before time expired, Ian Farley score the game-winner to give the Pioneers their first victory of the year.
RETURNING FIREPOWER
The Big Green will return three of the top five leading scorers from last season. Wiley Osborne led Dartmouth in both assists (21) and points (33) and was third in goals (12). He was also one of just four players to appear in and start all 13 games throughout the year. Jack Korzelius had a standout freshman year, finishing in second place in goals (21) and third in points (24). He scored the game-winner in back-to-back games: the 12-11 double-overtime thriller against Harvard on March 21 and the 16-15 win over Vermont three days later. Cameron Lee ended his junior year with 13 points (9G, 4A) and had three multi-point games through the season.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Two of Dartmouth's three goalkeepers from last year's roster will be returning to the field this season. Blair Friedensohn appeared in and started all 13 games, stopping 128 shots while allowing 149 goals. He had a .462 save percentage and 12.43 goals against average. Ty Vandenberg saw time in net for three goals throughout his first season with the Big Green, making one save. Hoping to see some time in net during their first collegiate seasons are Joe Balaban and Griffin Miller.
FRESH FACES
Fourteen of the 40 players on the roster will be donning the Green and White uniform for the first time. Making up the Class of 2019 are Cameron Nolting, David Marshall, Harrison Lane, Will Randell, Bo Forsen, Jack Auteri, Austin Meacham, Joe Balaban, Griffin Miller, Matt Tanenblatt, Landon McKenzie, Armin Mortazavi and Tyler Haskell. Also making his Big Green debut is sophomore Steve Satterthwaite, who played one season and red-shirted another at Hofstra.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Next weekend, The Big Green will head to Colorado for the Denver Pioneer Classic. On Saturday, Dartmouth will face Air Force before taking on host Denver the following day.
