HANOVER, N.H. – No. 41 Dartmouth women's tennis won its fifth straight match on Sunday afternoon, defeating UMass, 6-1, at the Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green improved to 6-2, while the Minutewomen fell to 5-6.
Two of Dartmouth's doubles matches ended with a score of 6-0. At the top spot, seventh-ranked duo junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis defeated Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito, while senior Katherine Yau and sophomore Julia Schroeder won against Ruth Crawford and Ana Woosley at No. 2. Playing together for the first time this season, senior Suzy Tan and sophomore Lexxi Kiven had a 6-1 victory over Arielle Griffin and Laura Moreno at the No. 3 position.
Wins by Mathis at No. 3 and Schroeder at No. 5 made it 3-0 in favor of the Green, and the match was soon clinched by Crawford at the No. 4 position. The Minutewomen got their only point of the day at No. 2. With the match in Dartmouth's hands, matches at the No. 1 and 6 positions went to super-breakers to determine a winner.
At No. 1, Crawford took the first set, 6-1, and Ng took the second, 6-3, and it was the Big Green junior that came out on top in the super-breaker, 10-6. At No. 6, freshman Allison took the first set, 6-2, but it was Benito that won the second, 6-3. Chuang, too, won the super-breaker by a score of 10-6 to end the day.
Dartmouth will take almost a month off before heading to warmer weather out in California. It will face San Diego State, UC Irvine and Long Beach State within a three-day span.
