SAN DIEGO, Calif. – No. 44 Dartmouth women's tennis kicked off Spring Break by winning its sixth straight match, defeating San Diego State, 4-3, at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday. The Big Green improved to 7-2, while the Aztecs dipped to 5-10.
Dartmouth swept doubles to get the first point of the day. At the No. 1 position, the 14th-ranked pairing of junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis had a 6-2 victory over Jane Buth and Isabelle Hoorn, while senior Katherine Yau and sophomore Julia Schroeder defeated Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz de Regules, 6-1, at No. 2.
Sophomore Lexxi Kiven and junior Jacqueline Crawford wrapped up doubles play with a 6-3 win over Tami Nguyen and Taylor Lederman at No. 3.
Winning the doubles point was huge for the Green, which took the top three singles spots and dropped the bottom three. At the No. 1 position, Ng had a 6-1, 6-4 win over Buth and Mathis took down Davis, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 3. Yau's match against Nguyen at No. 2 went to three sets, with Nguyen winning the first, 6-3, and Yau tying it up with a 6-2 victory in the second. The Dartmouth senior won the third, 6-3, to end her match.
The Big Green return to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. match against UC Irvine.
