IRVINE, Calif. – No. 44 Dartmouth women's tennis added another victory to the schedule with a 6-1 defeat of UC Irvine at the Anteater Tennis Stadium on Saturday. The Big Green improved to 8-2, while the Anteaters fell to 2-11.
With the win, head coach Bob Dallis earned his 400th career victory. Dallis is in his 14th year at Dartmouth and previously coached both men's and women's teams at Colgate (1998-02) and the men's team at Boston University (1987-98).
Decisive wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles put the Green ahead right from the beginning of the match. Fourteenth-ranked duo Taylor Ng and Kristina Mathis downed Andrea Duva and Vivien Dvali, 6-1, at No. 1, while junior Jacqueline Crawford and sophomore Lexxi Kiven had a 6-2 victory over Ashlynn Hall and Mazy Watrous.
Dartmouth was victorious in all but one of its singles matches, a three-set win at No. 2. Sophomore Julia Schroeder got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Cassidy Branstine at No. 5 and Crawford followed that up at No. 4, taking down Duva, 6-1, 6-0. Mathis clinched the victory for the Green with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Watrous at No. 3.
With an Anteater win at No. 2, just two courts remained in play. At No. 6, freshman Allison Chuang had to fight her way to a win, defeating Hall in three sets by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. At No. 1, Ng also had a tough match, coming out on top by taking the superbreaker, winning by scores of 7-6(8-6), 6-7(5-7), 10-7.
On Tuesday, March 22, Dartmouth will play its final match in California, taking on Long Beach State at 5 p.m.
