HANOVER, N.H. – After losing a tough match against No. 58 Columbia earlier in the day, the No. 32 Dartmouth women's tennis team battled to a 4-3 win over No. 54 Brown to finish in third place at the ECAC Tennis Championship on Sunday.
The Big Green improved to 2-2 on the season and the Bears dipped to 3-3.
Junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis had a 6-4 win over Alyza Benotto and Dayna Lord at No. 1 doubles, while senior Julianne Keong and junior Jacqueline Crawford defeated Ammu Mandalap and Maddie Stearns, 6-2, to take the doubles point.
At No. 6 singles, freshman Allison Chuang got things started with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over A. Mandalap, but Brown tied it at two-all with wins at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions. Mathis had a 7-5, 6-2 defeat of Hannah Camhi at No. 3 to give the edge back to Dartmouth, but another win for the Bears at No. 2 had the teams, once again, tied, with it coming down to No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Julia Schroeder started out well and won the first set against Katie Ta, 6-3, and continued with her strong play to take the second, 7-5, to clinch the match.
The Green will head to Beantown next weekend to face No. 48 Boston College on Saturday and Boston University the following afternoon.
