HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman Rob Emery was selected as this week's Ivy League Rookie of the Week in baseball after helping the Big Green split six games at the Russ Matt Invitational in Florida. This is the first weekly honor for a Dartmouth player this year, and the 11th straight year in which a Big Green freshman has earned this weekly award.
A 6-0, 210-pound catcher from San Francisco, California, Emery was one of just two players on the roster to play in all six games, hitting .273 (6-for-22) with a triple, homer and six RBIs. He reached base safely in all six games, collecting at least one hit safely in five of the six games, plus drove in at least one run in those five contests, including a go-ahead, RBI triple in the eighth inning against Bucknell in an eventual 6-4 victory. The next day he blasted his first career home run well over the fence in left field against Bradley. Emery also drove in a run in each of the Big Green's victories on Sunday, contributing to the 5-4 win against Lehigh and 4-2 triumph over Maine.
Dartmouth (3-9) returns to action this evening when it plays at Stetson (12-9) in DeLand, Florida, at 6:30 p.m. Senior Beau Sulser (1-0, 5.40) will climb the hill for the Big Green and square off against Hatter right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-0, 2.70). Fans can watch the action online by signing up through Hatter Vision. Visit the Stetson athletics website (GoHatters.com) for more information.
Note: The last Big Green player to be named the Rookie of the Week was Kyle Holbrook in the final week of the 2015 season.
