Big Green End West Coast Trip with a 2-0 Win

DAVIS, Calif. – The Dartmouth softball team came away from California with one more win on Sunday as the Big Green took down UC Davis 2-0, in the final game of the Aggie Spring Swing Invitational.

With the victory, Dartmouth improves to 11-9, while the Aggies fall to 11-15.

The Big Green sent senior Morgan McCalmon to the circle, as she has been solid pitching in relief on this particular road trip. The Norman, Oklahoma native pitched a complete game allowing just seven hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Dartmouth struck first when sophomore Lourlin Lara singled to left center to begin the ball game. She advanced to second on Tiffany Dyson's sacrifice bunt and reached third on senior Katie McEachern's single through the left field side. With one out, junior Karen Chaw hit a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed Lara to score, giving the Big Green the early 1-0 lead.

In the second Dartmouth loaded the bases, and chased UC Davis' starting pitcher Leah Munden from the game after 1.1 innings of work.

Despite putting three runners on in the second, the Big Green could not score until the top half of the following inning. After back-to-back singles by McEachern and Chaw, senior Kathy Dzienkowski smacked a single to left field which scored McEachern and extended Dartmouth's lead to 2-0.

Andrea Reynolds continued to pitch well for the Aggies, but ultimately took the loss, falling to 7-6 on the year. McCalmon also remained poised in the circle, getting two of the final three batters to strike out to end the game.

With the conclusion of this road trip, the Big Green will open Ivy League play against Princeton next Friday with a doubleheader in New Jersey.
