Dartmouth Drops Doubleheader to No. 14 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The Dartmouth softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 14 Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green are now 2-7 on the season, while the Sooners improve to 12-4.
Senior Morgan McCalmon got the start again in the circle for Dartmouth in her hometown. She pitched a great first inning, striking out two batters. However, with two outs in the second, Oklahoma struck first when Fale Aviu hit a two-run homer to left field to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead.
In the third, the Big Green tried to respond when Lourlin Lara reached base on a fielder's choice, while freshman Morgan Martinelli singled to left-center and advanced to second on the throw. A ground out to end the inning stranded the two Dartmouth runners on base.
Oklahoma added two more runs in the fourth when Aviu hit another two-run blast, this time to right field. The Sooners ended the game in the fifth when Erin Miller hit a two-run home run to right-center after Shay Knighten scored on an error to cap off the 9-0 win in five innings.
In game two, the Big Green got off to a decent start when senior Katie McEachern led off with a walk and Lara laid down a bunt single. The pair could not score, but Oklahoma also left two runners on base in its half of the first. The Sooners broke the game open in the second however, scoring five runs including a two-run homer from Knighten. Oklahoma added two more runs in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Seven would be all the Sooners needed as the Big Green could not find its offensive footing throughout the rest of the game. Sophomore Breanna Ethridge took the loss for Dartmouth with two innings of work, while freshman Lauren Stone pitched four innings in relief.
The Big Green return to the diamond on March 18th when Dartmouth travels to Santa Clara for the Santa Clara Round Robin Tournament.
