ANNAPOLIS, Md. – All three of Dartmouth's divers opened their final meet of the season on the first day of the 2016 NCAA Division I 'A' Diving Regional Championship on Monday. The men were on the 3-meter diving board, while freshman Allison Green competed on 1-meter.
"Brett and AJ did well today," head coach Chris Hamilton said. "It's a tough meet, with 46 divers in the competition and it's even tougher on the women's side with 57 divers. It was difficult to get in a rhythm with about 30 minutes of sitting around. Brett was one of just two Ivy League divers to final on the men's side. We are hoping to have both in the finals tomorrow."
In the preliminaries on the 3-meter board, senior Brett Gillis placed 18th (298.85) and freshman AJ Krok came in 26th place (268.20). Gillis advanced to the finals and moved up a place to finish in 17th (586.35), finishing over 12 points ahead of the next diver. The senior also finished in 17th place on 3-meter at last year's event.
Over on the 1-meter diving board, Green placed 41st in prelims (204.25). She scored just five points fewer than she did at last month's Ivy League Championship and it was her third-best performance all season.
The Big Green divers will return to Navy's Lejeune Pool on Tuesday for day two of the championship.
