Dartmouth Wins 4-3 Thriller Against Purdue

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's tennis defeated Purdue, 4-3, at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, handing the Boilermakers their first loss of the season. The Big Green remain undefeated with a record of 3-0.

Purdue took the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and 3 positions. At No. 2, junior Julia Schroeder and freshman Racquel Lyn defeated Caitlin Calkins and Natalia Davila, 6-0, but the visitors went into singles play with a 1-0 edge.

Dartmouth took the first set on five courts. At the No. 5 position, Lyn – who is No. 104 in the latest ITA rankings – picked up the Big Green's first point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Deboarh Suarez, but Purdue made it 2-1 with a win at the No. 6 spot. Dartmouth tied it back up when senior Taylor Ng – who is No. 123 in the national rankings – had a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Nicole Robinson, but the lead went back to the Boilermakers with a win at the No. 4 position, making it a 3-2 match.

Junior Kristina Mathis battled back from third set deficits of 2-4 and 3-5 to beat Alex Sabe 6-0,2-6,7-6(3) at No. 3 and tied the match at 3-3. Senior Jacqueline Crawford then clinched the match for the Big Green in a three-set thriller at the No. 2 position. The Big Green co-captain won the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-1. After going down 0-2 in the third set, she fought back to win the final set 6-4 to lift Dartmouth to victory.

Next weekend, the Big Green will compete in the Courtside Classic, facing Minnesota on Friday and either DePaul or Washington State on Sunday.
