CANTON, N.Y. – Alex Jasiek's third-period power-play goal stood up as the game winner Friday night in Appleton Arena as the Dartmouth men's hockey team beat St. Lawrence, 3-2.
It was the Big Green's first victory in Canton since Valentine's Day 2014.
Dartmouth improves to 7-10-2 overall and 5-6-1 in league games with the result. The Saints remain winless in ECAC Hockey games at 0-10-1 and are 4-17-2 overall.
Picking up just their second road victory of the season, the Big Green scored once in each of the game's three periods. Charley Michalowski got things started with his third of the season at 8:25 of the first after linemate Daniel Warpecha danced through the defense and put a centering pass out front for the one-time goal.
Fellow sophomore Shane Sellar made it 2-0 with his fifth of the year just two minutes and five seconds into the middle frame. The goal came on a 2-on-1 rush and a nice feed from freshman Quin Foreman into the slot.
The Saints made it a one-goal game heading into the second intermission with senior Nolan Gluchowski's point shot at 6:06 pulling the home team to within one.
Jasiek's third of the season started in the defensive zone as junior Connor Yau stopped a SLU rush and pushed the puck up to Matt Baker. The freshman carried the puck into the offensive zone before dropping it to Jasiek, who moved into the slot, waited for Saints goalie Arthur Brey to drop into the butterfly before roofing a shot into the back of the net.
St. Lawrence would make it close again as Carson Gicewicz scored just over two and a half minutes after the Jasiek marker.
However, that's when senior goaltender Devin Buffalo shut the door completely on any comeback bid. He needed to make just 20 saves in the game and only six in the final frame. But many of those were on screens, re-directs and rebound bids, keeping the home team off the board in the final minutes to preserve the road conference win.
Dartmouth was 1-for-4 on the power play, while killing off the one man-advantage St. Lawrence had on the night. The Green and White also held a 27-22 edge in shots.
The Big Green continue their North Country swing Saturday night against No. 2 Clarkson. Puck drop from up the road in Potsdam is set for 7 p.m. inside Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights are 14-0-1 in their last 15 games after playing to a 6-6 draw with Harvard Friday night.
