UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team ran to a fifth-place showing Friday morning at Penn State's National Open.
Â
The Big Green posted 186 points on the 6K Blue-White Golf Course, led by junior
Georgia Fear's 23rd-place showing in 21:11. Classmate
Lauren Sapone was also credited with a time of 21:11, but was deemed to be 26th in the order of finish.
Â
The host Nittany Lions were first in the team standings with 62 points with Michigan State (87), Georgia Tech (143) and Princeton (182) finishing ahead of Dartmouth.
Â
As has been the story of the 2018 Big Green, the team benefited from a tight grouping of scoring runners. Friday was no different as
Julia Stevenson was the third Dartmouth harrier to pick up points and was just four spots and two seconds back of Sapone as she was 30th in 21:13.
Â
Lillian Anderson (53rd, 21:30) and
Olivia Lantz (54th, 21:31) rounded out the scoring runners for the Green and White, while
Glennis Murphy (60th, 21:35) and
Ella Ketchum (74th, 21:42) weren't too far back.
Â
In total, 28 teams and nearly 300 runners comprised the race.
The team is back in action next week at Central Connecticut's Short Course meet on Friday.
