THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth women's hockey team will officially open the 2018-19 season on Friday against ECAC Hockey rival Harvard. This is the first of five consecutive road games the Big Green will play to start the year.
PRESEASON GAMES
Dartmouth played two preseason games to prepare for the season, hosting the KRS Vanke Rays (a professional team that is part of the Canadian Women's Hockey League) in early October before taking on McGill in their annual exhibition contest a week later. Dartmouth played an evenly matched game against the Martlets, falling by a score of 2-1 when McGill found the back of the net with just two seconds remaining in the third period.
Chloe Puddifant netted the goal for Dartmouth late in the second.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard hosted an exhibition game against McGill on Friday, taking down the Martlets by a score of 4-0. This was the Crimson's lone preseason contest.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
The Big Green and the Crimson opened 2017-18 against each other at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Oct. 20, a game that Harvard won, 4-1. At home in December, Dartmouth dropped a close game by a score of 1-0 after the Crimson scored late in the third.
COACHING STAFF
Head coach
Laura Schuler is in her second season at the helm of the program after spending last season coaching the Canadian Women's Olympic Hockey Team. She is joined by assistant coaches
Chris Cobb in his third year and
Morgan Illikainen '15, who is back for her second season. A new face added to the staff was
Krista Patronick, who was named director of hockey operations in September.
CAPTAINS
As has been the case for the past two years, just one player is wearing the 'C' on her jersey in 2018-19.
Christina Rombaut is serving as captain, while
Alyssa Baker,
Kate Landers and
Caroline Shaunessy are alternate captains.
- Rombaut has been a force since her first year in Hanover in 2016-17. Last season as a sophomore, she had three goals and tacked on a team-leading nine assists for 12 points, which tied her for second on the team. She is the first junior to serve as captain since Meagan Walton '05 in 2003-04. Rombaut has been named ECAC Hockey All-Academic for the past two years, also being named to the Commissioner's List last year for having the highest GPA on the team.
- Baker ended her junior year with four goals and six assists for a career-high 10 points. In the span of 10 games from Nov. 11 through Jan. 13, she had seven points, while eight of her points came against conference opponents.
- Landers netted five goals and tacked on six assists for a career-high 11 points in 2017-18, putting her fourth on the team. She had a season-high three points (2-1-3) in the 4-3 win against Holy Cross on Nov. 24.
- Shaunessy, a two-time alternate captain, ended her junior year with six points from four goals and two assists. She scored two goals in the 3-2 win over Union on Jan. 5, netting the first game winner of her career. Shaunessy was named both Academic All-Ivy and ECAC Hockey All-Academic.
CLASS OF 2022

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Netminding duties will be split between three goalies this season:
Christine Honor,
Shannon Ropp and
Kayla Wormsbecher.
- Starting goalie Honor appeared in 26-of-27 last year, ending up with a .908 save percentage and 3.50 goals against average. Her 818 saves has her first in the Dartmouth all-time record book, first in the Ivy League and third in the ECAC Hockey. Her 61 saves in the 1-0 win over Quinnipiac on Oct. 27 is both a Dartmouth and NCAA record for most stops in a shutout. She was named All-Ivy honorable mention at the end of the season.
- Ropp appeared in seven games as a junior, ending the season with 97 saves, an .882 save percentage and 3.84 goals against average. She picked up her first collegiate win in the 4-3 defeat of Holy Cross on Nov. 24. Ropp was also named ECAC All-Academic.
- Although Wormsbecher did not see play as a freshman, she did have a good showing in the second period in the exhibition game against McGill last week, stopping all 12 shots sent her way.
