HANOVER, N.H. – One of the most successful programs in the history of Ivy League men's cross country, Dartmouth is looking to write a new chapter to the story in 2018.
Â
The 2018 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship Meet at Princeton's West Windsor Fields will provide the Big Green that opportunity.
Â
With 16 titles to their credit, the team has a championship pedigree, but it's been 13 years since the Green and White have added to that total. This season has seen the team put together several strong showings and another on Saturday in the Garden State could catch the seven other Ivy teams by surprise and lead to another memorable Heps.
Â
Since 2010, Dartmouth has averaged between third and fourth at this meet, claiming the runner-up spot once and third place three other times. Last season on the 8K Van Cortland Park course in the Bronx,
Will Shafer's 19th-place finish in 25:48 paced the team to fifth in the standings with 138 points.
Â
That total was the most by a Big Green squad at Heps since 2007 (148), but in taking fifth place showed how deep and talented the field has become in the Ivy League in recent years.
Â
But all that is in the past and Saturday's meet is the only thing the group is focused on now.
