ITHACA, N.Y. – Dartmouth women's swimming and diving won its first Ivy League meet since 2012, taking down Cornell (152-148) in a conference tri-meet that came down to the very last relay. The Big Green also competed against Harvard, falling by a score of 186-114.
Mia Leko had a great showing, winning all three of her individual events: the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.99), 200-yard fly (2:01.58) and 500-yard freestyle (5:03.29).
Dartmouth got off to a good start in the 200-yard medley relay, taking second (1:47.01) and third (1:47.41). The Green narrowly out-touched Cornell's A relay (1:47.84) and Harvard's B (1:47.86).
In the 1000-yard freestyle,
Sarah Minnigh finished in third place (10:27.05), leaving a 16-second gap between her and a Cornell swimmer.
Connie Zhang was third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.25), out-finishing Matti Harrison of Harvard by just three one-hundredths of a second.
The Big Green took first and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Mackenzie Stumpf got the win (1:04.11), while
Maggie Deppe-Walker followed soon after (1:06.34). It was a very similar story in the 200-yard breaststroke: Stumpf got her second win of the day (2:21.06) and Deppe-Walker was third (2:24.33). Stumpf later was fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:09.02). In the 50-yard freestyle, 11 swimmers touched within seventh tenths of a second.
Ashley Post was one of them, taking fourth (24.34).
On the 3-meter diving board,
Maggie Pionzio finished highest for Dartmouth in eighth (215.65), while
Isabella Lichen (190.75) and
Allison Green (159.15) were 10th and 11th, respectively. On 1-meter, Pionzio once again led the way for the Big Green, taking sixth (225.30). Green placed eighth (204.35) and Lichen followed in ninth (197.90).
In the 100-yard freestyle,
Zoe Wortzman placed fifth (53.27), while, in the 100-yard fly,
Cathleen Li touched in third place (56.91).
Caroline Poleway led the way for two other Dartmouth swimmers in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in sixth place (2:08.30) while being followed by
Susannah Laster (2:09.75) and
Sarah Finlay (2:14.03).
With the Big Green and the Big Red neck-and-neck, the outcome was decided in the final relay. Dartmouth came away with the win (3:29.98), out-touching Cornell by just three-tenths of a second.
At the end of the month, the Green will head to Providence for the three-day Bruno Invitational.
