THIS WEEKEND
After winning its quarterfinal match against Brown handily on Saturday, the Dartmouth women's rugby team advanced to the NIRA Semifinal, where it will play No. 4 seed Army West Point.
SCHEDULE
Due to the Nor'easter making its way to Hanover, Friday's games have been moved to Scully-Fahey Field (the lacrosse field) on campus. The Big Green and the Black Knights will face off at 12 p.m. before Harvard and Quinnipiac meet at 3 p.m.
The winner of semifinal one and two will meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth had a 75-15 win over Brown over the weekend. Nine different players had at least one try, while
Camille Johnson,
Marin Pennell and
Ale Ada all had two. Johnson led the way with 25 points from two tries, one penalty kick and six conversions.
Dartmouth started the game strongly when Ada scored the opening try just 49 seconds into the first half. After that, the Big Green took off, scoring six more tries in a 17-minute span (Margot Généreux,
Sophie Ragg,
Milla Anderson, Johnson, Ada and Pennell). Add three good conversions by Johnson, and Dartmouth had a 41-0 edge halfway through the first.
It took less than nine minutes for
Karina Martinez to get one of her own to further increase the Green's lead. The Bears tried their hand at a try, evading a few Dartmouth players before being taken down. A good penalty kick by Johnson gave the home team a 51-0 edge heading into the intermission.
Dartmouth opened the second with three tries scored in eight minutes (Johnson, Pennell and
Maya Perkins) to make it a 68-0 game. In the 15th minute, Brown broke through to score its first try of the match, but the Green responded two minutes later when
Olivia Marquis scored her first collegiate try. The Bears appeared to find their stride after that, scoring two tries and adding a good conversion to get to double digit points (75-17), but the game ended soon after.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Having had its last two matches canceled, Army's quarterfinal game against Norwich on Nov. 10 was its first game in almost a month. In that opening game of the championship, the Black Knights had a dominating 61-3 performance.
LAST TIME AGAINST ARMY
The Green had a 26-20 victory over the Black Knights last month, which was their closest match of the fall.
Dartmouth took control from the start, scoring three straight tries to open the half. Ada had her first double-digit performance, scoring the Green's first and third tries, while Martinez had her third of the season. With two good conversions by Johnson, Dartmouth had a 19-0 edge with 14 minutes remaining in the half.
A few minutes later, Army scored its first of the game to slightly cut into the Big Green's lead (19-5).
The visitors made it a 26-5 game seven minutes into the second half when
Alex Conway had her second try in as many games, followed by Johnson's third good kick of the match. The Black Knights responded with three tries over the course of 13 minutes to pull within six points, but ran out of time before they could score another.
