AMHERST, N.Y. – For the second time in as many years and an Ivy League record 13th time in program history, the Dartmouth women's cross country team has qualified for the NCAA Championship.
Â
The 27th-ranked Big Green will move on to 2018 national championship meet next week in Madison, Wisconsin, thanks to a second-place finish Friday morning at the Northeast Regional in suburban Buffalo.
Â
Dartmouth posted 88 points to punch their ticket, claiming one of the region's two automatic berths along with 20th-ranked Columbia (41 points). The Green edged out third-place Yale by just six points with Cornell (120) taking fourth and making the 6K race on the Audubon Golf Course an Ivy League dominated affair.
Â
Once again, it was pack running that helped Dartmouth during the race in cold, wet, snowy conditions.
Â
Glennis Murphy (10th, 22:09.1) and
Lauren Sapone (11th, 22:10.7) led the way at the top, with
Georgia Fear (14th, 22:16.8) and
Julia Stevenson (16th, 22:16.8) adding some immediate depth to the team scoring.
Â
Rounding out the scoring was
Lillian Anderson (37th, 22:40.5) with
Olivia Lantz (38th, 22:40.6) one spot out, missing points by a tenth of a second.
Â
The Big Green edged out the other nationally ranked team running on Friday as No. 25 Syracuse took sixth (155).
