PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team remain in fifth place (271.5 points) after day two of the three-day Bruno Invitational. The Big Green are ahead of Johns Hopkins (202) and Rider (104.5).
To open the finals session, Dartmouth's 200-yard medley A relay picked up 28 points by finishing in fifth place (1:44.13). The team of
Caroline Poleway,
Mackenzie Stumpf,
Cathleen Li and
Zoe Wortzman touched two-tenths of a second ahead of Brown in sixth.
Mia Leko and Li swam in the B final of the 100-yard fly, taking 11th (55.87) and 12th (56.67), respectively. Competing in the C final were
Caroline Poleway (56.89) and
Alie Hunter (57.11). Poleway was back a few events later in the 100-yard backstroke, taking 12th place (57.05).
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Ashley Post came in third place (1:49.82) and was just one of three people to break 1:50.00. Also swimming the event were Leko (1:50.29),
Summer Martin (1:51.03) and
Laura Barthold (1:52.23).
Stumpf touched in second place in the 100-yard breast (1:01.92), coming in to the wall just three one-hundredths of a second behind Miami's Zorry Mason.
Kenna Van Steyn (1:05.06) and
Maggie Deppe-Walker swam in the B final (1:05.48).
All four of Dartmouth's divers competed in prelims on the 1-meter board.
Maggie Pionzio finished highest in 13th (196.45) and was followed by
Isabella Lichen (195.65),
Sloane Papa (192.15) and
Allison Green (145.10).
To conclude day two, the Big Green saw their 800-yard freestyle relay finish in sixth place (7:29.45). Made up of Wortzman, Martin, Post and Leko, Dartmouth out-touched Johns Hopkins by two and a half seconds.
The third and final day of the Bruno Invite will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
