HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League office announced its weekly baseball awards this afternoon with Dartmouth junior Sean Sullivan being selected as the Player of the Week for his performance in five games on the West Coast. He is the first Big Green player chosen as the Player of the Week since Trevor Johnson picked up the hardware last April 4.
Sullivan, a native of Hopedale, Massachusetts, continued his torrid streak to start the year, collecting at least two hits in each of the five games, including a career-high four knocks in the series finale at Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday. He began the 10-game, 11-day, spring-break trip with a 3-for-5 performance against UC Santa Barbara, then rapped out two hits in each of the first three games versus the Roadrunners before his four-hit day. On Friday, he reached base four times with a single, double, two walks and a stolen base while scoring two runs and driving in two more in an 11-9 victory over CSUB.
For the five games, Sullivan hit .619 (13-for-21) with a double, three walks and was hit by a pitch for an on-base percentage of .680, scoring four times while producing three RBIs from one of the top two spots in the order. He now has nine multi-hit games in the 11 played by the Big Green, boasting a .511 average to lead all players at the Division I level, plus is third nationally in on-base percentage (.569).
Sullivan is the second Dartmouth player to win a weekly award this season, joining senior right-hander Clay Chatham, who was pegged as the Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago. He was also named the Ivy League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
Dartmouth (3-8) continues its trip with a single game at San Jose State this afternoon at 3 p.m. (local time), which will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
