HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's tennis head coach
Chris Drake has announced the addition of two players to the team as members of the Class of 2022.
Â
Joining the Big Green for the 2018-19 season are Sid Chari and Pierce Widdecombe.
Â
"Pierce and Sid make up another strong recruiting class for us," Drake said. "They both have big games and should fit in with our team culture immediately. I am really happy to be able to bring in such great athletes and competitors, but even more to add two more outstanding people to our tennis family."
Â
Chari and Widdecombe are joining a successful Dartmouth program that won its first ECAC Indoor Championship title ever, won its first Ivy League title since 1997 and made it to the NCAA tournament for the second time in the past three seasons.
Â
Name: Sid Chari
Hometown/High School: Saratoga, Florida / Menlo School
Accolades: Three-time All-American … won the high school team national invitational.
Quote from Sid: "The tight-knit community, along with the strong academics and tennis team, was great to see as a student-athlete, and I know Dartmouth will be a perfect place for me to grow."
Quote from Coach Drake: "We saw Sid play quite a few matches as a sophomore and junior in high school and his ability was obvious. When the opportunity arose to offer Sid a spot on the team, we jumped at it. He has a true weapon in his serve and he can create offense from any position on the court. We can't wait to see what he can do for the Big Green."
Â
Name: Pierce Widdecombe
Hometown/High School: Plymouth, England / Millfield School
Accolades: Headmaster Commendation … winner of National Singles Tournament in Sutton, England.
Quote from Pierce: "After visiting Dartmouth, I felt like the great sense of community would provide an environment where I could develop both as a person and as a tennis player. I am really looking forward to starting my time there and meeting all my classmates."
Quote from Coach Drake: "Pierce is going to help us right from the start. After seeing him play on two different occasions in the UK and getting to know him as a person and competitor, we knew we wanted him to be part of our team. Pierce is strong technically and has a great offensive mindset on the court. We are very excited to begin working with him."
