HANOVER, N.H. – The 2018 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Preseason National Rankings were announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The Dartmouth women's cross country team was slotted 28th, making the Big Green the lone Ivy League team ranked by the nation's head coaches. It's one step up from where the team finished last fall, claiming 29th at the 2017 NCAA Championship in Louisville.
Â
Monday saw Dartmouth earn the No. 3 ranking in the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Rankings announcement behind only Providence and Syracuse, who were 11th and 22nd, respectively, in the national poll.
Â
The Big Green finished second last season at both the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship as well as the Northeast Region to punch their tickets to nationals.
Â
At Heps,
Olivia Lantz led the way with a fifth-place finish. She returns for her senior season and provides depth to a team that also includes junior
Julia Stevenson (11th) and sophomore
Ella Ketchum (13th), Dartmouth's second- and third-place finishers at the conference meet a season ago, who earned All-Ivy League Second team honors in the process.
Â
Stevenson would go on to take ninth at regionals and with Lantz crossing in 13th, giving the Green and White a lot of talent at the front of a group of runners returning to Hanover in 2018.
