Dartmouth (0-4-2) outshot Hofstra (3-3-2) 15-6 and 4-2 on goal, the Big Green also came away with a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. One bad bounce for Dartmouth in the 74th minute was difference in the contest.
Dartmouth and Hofstra were even with three shots apiece in the first half. After the Pride had control for the first eight minutes of the match, the Big Green were able to get the ball on Hofstra's side of the field. McCartney's shot in the 11th minute was saved and shots by
Yima Asom and
Tiger Graham were not on target later in the half as the teams went into the break scoreless.
It was back-and-forth action for much of the second half as Dartmouth had three shots compared to Hofstra's two up until the 74th minute. That is when the Pride's second shot on goal was headed by Matthew Vowinkel to the back of the net to make it 1-0 Hofstra. It was Vowinkel's fourth goal of the season.
The Big Green responded with nine shots in the closing minutes but could not score as time ran out.
