HANOVER, N.H. – On the heels of a strong showing at Boston College's Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, the Dartmouth women's cross country team has made moves in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) polls.
Â
The Big Green ran to a fifth-place finish at the meet in Boston, posting 168 points in the process. In doing so, Dartmouth bested regional powers Syracuse (9th) and Providence (11th) as well as Ivy League foe Brown (6th).
Â
That performance has moved up the Green and White to the No. 1 spot in the USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Ranking announced Monday afternoon. The national rankings were announced Tuesday and featured Dartmouth at No. 28, maintaining its position as the only Ivy League team featured in the national poll once again.
Â
This marks the first time in program history that the Big Green on either the men or the women's side has been ranked as the top team in the Northeast Region during cross country season. When the dust settled on the BC meet, Dartmouth was the region's top team followed Brown, Syracuse, Providence and Columbia.
Â
The women's cross country program had been as high as No. 2 in the poll once during the 2014 season and three straight weeks late in 2013, but had never managed to reach the top spot until this week. In both seasons, the team qualified for the NCAA Championship.
Â
The Green are off this weekend, but return to racing next Saturday in the 2018 New England Championship at Franklin Park, the same course that hosted the BC meet.
