THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team will play a pair of non-conference games this weekend against New England-based state schools. Vermont comes to Hanover for a Friday afternoon contest, while the Big Green head to UMass Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth went 1-1 in its season-opening weekend in Iowa, falling to No. 20 Iowa, 6-0, before bouncing back to beat Ball State, 5-1, in the neutral-site contest the following afternoon.
SCOUTING VERMONT
•   The Catamounts have lost each of their three games played this season.
•   Vermont has scored one goal in each of those three contests, including a 2-1 loss to Quinnipiac in its home opener and a 3-1 loss to Sunday's opponent UMass this past weekend.
•   Those three goals have come off the sticks of three different players as Sydney Melfi, Carla Godsman and Pleun Haantjes have all found the back of the net once. None of those tallies have been credited with an assist.
•   Sierra Espeland has played all 210 minutes in the Catamounts' net and has a 3.86 goals against average to go along with a .690 save percentage.
AGAINST THE CATAMOUNTS
•   Dartmouth's last win in the series was a 4-1 victory at home in 2016.
•  Â
Carmen Braceras is the only Dartmouth goal scorer from that game on this year's roster.
Evie Bird assisted on Braceras' goal as Dartmouth had a 3-0 lead by the 12th minute of play. Â
•   In last year's meeting, a 5-2 UVM win in Burlington,
Gemma Bautista and
Kira Koehler both scored for the visiting team.
SCOUTING UMASS
•   The Minutewomen come into the weekend with a 2-2 record. By the time they meet up with the Big Green that figure will have changed as they play host to No. 1 UConn on Friday.
•   UMass has picked up wins against Northeastern (2-1) and Vermont (3-1).
•   The offense runs through Antonet Louw and her six goals. The junior from South Africa has three two-goal games to her credit this season and is tied for third in the nation with 1.50 per game.
•   Johanna von dem Borne is the goalkeeper of record in all four games and has a .731 save percentage and a 2.53 goals against average.
AGAINST THE MINUTEWOMEN
•   Dartmouth and UMass are renewing their rivalry after a three-year hiatus.
•   The Minutewomen bested Dartmouth, 6-1, back in 2015 in the last meeting, also in Amherst.
•  Â
Gemma Bautista scored the first goal of her career in the game, a tally that also marked her first career points.
FIVE FROM FIVE
•   Dartmouth's five goals against Ball State were the first five of its season.
•   Each goal came from a different player as
Katie Persin,
Kira Koehler,
Jocelyn Wulf,
Katie Spanos and
Gracyn Campbell all scored.
FIRST!
•   Campbell's goal in the 46th minute not only gave Dartmouth a 5-1 lead in the first-ever meeting against the Cardinals, it was also the first of her career and the first by any member of the Class of 2022.
FIRST… AND SECOND!
•   Junior
Maddie Donahue picked up an assist on Persin's sixth-minute goal for the first point of her career.
•   Donahue would then add another helper on the Campbell tally in the second half.

WHAT'S AHEAD?
After this weekend, the Big Green will be back in Hanover for a pair of non-conference games against Sacred Heart (Friday, Sept. 14) and Holy Cross (Sunday, Sept.16). The latter of the two brings former Dartmouth assistant Maddy Carpenter back to town after she joined the Crusaders' staff this past spring
