HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's cross country team will begin its 2018 season Saturday morning hosting the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational.
Â
The season-opening home meet was renamed in honor of the late Dartmouth coach who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer in late 2016.
Â
The Big Green have won the last four home meets (formerly known as the Dartmouth Invitational), dating back to the fall of 2014. Last season, the team posted a perfect score of 15 points en route to the fourth straight meet title, led by
Pat Gregory '18 (24:56.82). The top returner from that race was
Patrick O'Brien (25:10.89), who finished second in his first-ever collegiate race.
Â
Then-junior
Sander Kushen (3rd, 25:24.30), freshman
Benjamin Matejka (4th, 25:24.82) and sophomore
Sean Laverty (5th, 25:36.25) rounded out the scoring for the home team.
Â
Dartmouth would go on to finish fifth at Heps the following month and then 13th at the NCAA Northeast Regional two weeks later.
Â
Saturday's home 8K meet is set to get underway at 10:30 a.m. The women's 6K race will follow. Parking is available at the Ford Rugby Clubhouse lot.
