HANOVER, N.H. - The 2018 season kicked off Saturday morning for the Dartmouth men's cross country team at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational.
The Big Green posted a near-perfect score of 16 points to win their fifth-straight title in the annual home meet. Leading the way on the 8K course at the Hanover Country Club was sophomore
Patrick O'Brien, who won the race in 24:44.66.
Senior
Sander Kushen (24:52.23) claimed second, while
Quinn Cooney (24:52.92) and freshman Will Eaton (24:56.18) were third and fourth, respectively. After Brown's Franco Martins ran to a fifth-place finish, Dartmouth sophomore
Owen Ritz (24:59.52) claimed sixth to round out the scoring for the home team.
The team has now won this season-opening home meet each year since 2014. It was renamed prior to last season in honor of the Maribel Sanchez Souther '96, the late Dartmouth coach and former student-athlete.
Brown was second with 47 points, while Maine claimed third thanks to 88 and the 97 points posted by Hartford were good for fourth.
